spring in new york is usually a non-season.
last year, the weather was like this:
cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (translation: rain rain rain rain) Bam! HOT
although it's dreary outside, today was my first day back at added value, an urban farm on an old asphalt playing field out in red hook, where we did lots of weeding (a welcome and less smelly change from all the composting we did last season). i took some baby lettuce home in my grubby hands and threw it into my lunch...literally from farm to table! there is something so rich and satisfying about working with the earth. although i can barely keep my plant alive, i've always loved the idea of being a farmer (my other secret life pursuit: a horse ranch in montana).
