it's a wired, wired world

this expresses how i feel about the state of things...when i poke my head out long enough to take notice. funny how the writer notes everyone's 24 hour attachment to electronic devices...from the refuge of his home office. ha. i feel that way too...after work yesterday, i observed the masses crossing streets (and nearly getting hit by honking cars), loitering near office buildings, and getting in elevators...all while talking incessantly into their cell phones and clutching their laptop bags. but even with all this technology, we seem to have gone backwards. babies are growing dumber as they are plopped in front of dvds, we're getting fatter, and maybe it's because we prefer to sit with a laptop and cellphone for company. it's hard to remember what we used to do before we had so much. but i'm guilty too...of this helpless addiction to modern technology. i was away two weekends ago in rockport, mass, sitting on the beach, scrambling over rocks, and eating fresh lobster (as you can see in the picture below of maureen's 84-year-old grandpa) caught by the neighbors that morning. and still i couldn't wait to check email when i got home. i know, it's sad.
